Family Camp Activities include, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, gardening and composting, climbing wall, ropes course, archery, arts and crafts, nature hikes and other special programs each summer.

Each family also has a special snorkeling trip to Emerald Bay with Jean-Michel Cousteau and Dick Murphy.

We arrive in time for lunch on the first day of Family Camp, and then learn more about the activities that will be offered at various times during Family Camp. After moving into cabins, children and adults have a chance to participate in some of the fun activities at camp.

Each day there will be two activities in the morning and two in the afternoon. We also offer a special time each day for the 3 to 5 year olds to play together so parents can go snorkeling or do another activity those children cannot participate in because of age.

Dinner is preceded by social time. After dinner Jean-Michel and Dick Murphy present a topic about the ocean which they are currently involved in. We finish with Family Camp activity. Evening programs include a campfire the first evening and Family Choice Nights the second and third nights. Family choice offers opportunities to night snorkel, night hike, star gaze, enjoy a campfire and make s’mores or for the kids to watch an animated movie. The last night we have the Family Camp Talent Show which is a highlight for many of us as each family gets on stage for a skit, song or other short performance.

There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to try all the activities at camp, to meet other families and enjoy the beautiful setting at Howlands Landing.

We are a children’s summer camp. We do pride ourselves in keeping camp clean and well maintained. Our facility is designed for children to come and enjoy the outdoor environment. It is rustic and not over developed. Each family is assigned its own cabin with 6 bunk beds, an overhead light and one electrical outlet. The cabins are open air and many of the windows and doors are canvas covered. The restrooms are nearby with separate facilities for men and for women. Meals are served buffet style and all meals are eaten outdoors. Food meets a variety of needs. If you have questions about any special diets, please contact us to see what we can do to help.

The camp store is open at various times during the day and sells clothing items, soda and snacks and sundry items. The camp will supply beach towels for everyone and sleeping bags and pillows for those families flying into to Los Angeles for Family Camp. We can provide families with shuttle information to travel from the airport to San Pedro for the boat ride to camp.
