Who is taking care of my kids at camp?
All counselors and members of the leadership team at CIC share a common goal: to inspire campers and make a difference in the lives of children by serving as positive role models. CIC leadership is highly experienced, carefully selected, and specifically trained to support and guide both staff and campers. CIC is committed to the growth and development of its staff and leadership in a family atmosphere. Full-time and key seasonal staff are prepared and celebrated at an annual retreat. Leadership regularly attends conferences including the American Camp Association, Western Association of Independent Camps, and Camp Owners and Directors Association.

Staff members are screened for experience, skills, character, personality, and leadership ability. Each candidate (new or returning) completes a thorough application, a two-part interview process, and reference and background checks. After hiring, the staff arrives before camp begins for orientation and training in CIC procedures, policies, activities, and counseling skills. Throughout orientation, leadership focuses staff on camper needs and abilities, on skills to work with individuals and groups, and on skills to deal with situations they might encounter. Virtually all counselors and activity specialists have completed at least their first year of college and all are a minimum of 18 years old. Many counselors, activity specialists and supervisors are college graduates with several summers of experience working with children and in camps. Many staff are first aid and CPR certified. The waterfront staff is lifeguard trained. Activity specialists are trained in their specific camp activities. Powerboat operators hold a US Coast Guard Captains License.
